Cool Tech

Good hardware

In the last week I've moved into the spiffy new MetaBrainz office -- a big step for me with MusicBrainz, that's for sure. With the money raised from the fundraiser I was able to purchase a PC for the office, complete with monitor and keyboard. I did a fair amount of research and got a lot of tips from friends. Here is what I ended up buying and loving:

  1. Goldtouch USB Keyboard: This split ergonomic keyboard rocks -- the keys are great and comfortable to type on and it adjusts to any reasonable split and tilt level. Compared to the crappy Kinesis keyboard I have at home, this one is a total dream! If your wrists bother you (as mine do) this keyboard is indispensable. Pricey at $120, but I think my wrists are worth it.
  2. Dell 2001FP Monitor: This is my first flat panel monitor -- my aging 21 inch monitor at home won't do flicker free resolutions above 1280x1024. This monitor, even though I still am using it via VGA and not DVI, looks awesome. Not a single dead pixel, very bright and crisp. The built in USB is also really nice for attaching keyboard and mouse -- the two USB ports on the side of the monitor are killer too -- now I have a nice and easy to reach place for connecting SD Card readers. Street price: $520
  3. Antec Sonata Quiet PC Case: This ATX case comes with oversized low RPM fans and rubber grommeted drive trays. The case is spacious, no sharp edges and comes with nicely bound power cables. Pricey at $110, but silence is golden, no?

I figure with as much complaining I do here, I could for once say something nice. :-)
