Music industry watch
Astroturfing mp3 bloggers
No big surprise to get a confirmation that the music industry still doesn't understand the internet: Warner's Tryst With Bloggers Hits Sour Note. Astroturfing (fake grassroots movement) doesn't work and only makes the turfer look stupid. But then again, we're used to that from the music industry. I guess the thing to see here is that Warner, since under Bronfman's control is trying a different tune:
Ms. Bechtel said that the company had contacted many sites for the Web part of the publicity effort, and that the messages to MP3 blogs were an experiment. "We're really progressive in trying things," she said.
Unfortunately this tune is not much different from the stupid acts carried out by the other labels.
